Island Vantage
How islands survive between great powers.

About Island Vantage
I live on a small island.
This column records what the world looks like from one — buffers, subsidies, dependence, the squeeze, the periphery, and technology.
Starting from my own island, I try to understand how other islands and peripheral societies survive — from Taiwan to Hong Kong, from Malta to Åland.
Many small islands share a similar economic logic: external dependence, internal fragility, and the constant search for room to survive between great powers.
This column is an attempt to make sense of those patterns through the lenses of economics and geopolitics.
I’m not an economist — just an amateur observer and an undercover data analyst.
